The role of the CDM co-ordinator (CDMC) was created in April 2007 and is a much wider role than that of the planning supervisor. The CDMC now acts as the client’s advisor in matters relating to construction health and safety, with the role involving assisting and advising the client in undertaking the measures needed to comply with CDM 2007.

What RSL can Provide

RSL acting as CDM Coordinator can provide the client with a key project advisor in respect to construction health and safety risk management matters. Our main purpose is to assist clients to carry out their duties, coordinate health and safety aspects of the design work, encourage co-operation between all parties involved in the project and successfully deliver the health and safety file at completion.

Our CDM co-ordinators are registered members of the Association for Project Safety and therefore satisfy the standard required of the CDM Regulations with regard to demonstrating competence. They are highly experienced and qualified in order to deliver advice on all types of projects from inception through to completion.

RSL, as CDM Co-ordinator, would co-ordinate the design risk management process and help to contribute towards the finished structures being safe to build, safe to use, safe to clean and safe to maintain. We would be the key advisor on competence, provision of information, the design risk management process and the adequacy of the health and safety plan. Brevity and clarity is vital, and we would direct the project and design teams away from overly detailed design risk assessments and towards thinking through the buildability, usability and maintainability issues.

Our services can be tailored to the specific needs of the client and project and can include (over and above the regular duties of the CDMC);

  • Design Risk Workshops - particularly useful on high risk, multi-disciplinary, complex projects;
  • Best Practice Workshops - a more relaxed, informal version of a design risk workshop. This would involve the whole project team and would be an open and frank discussion on best practices;
  • Safety Inspections - a useful tool to assist the Client in monitoring site safety standards from an impartial perspective.

Experience

As CDM Co-ordinator RSL can provide a wealth of experience and expertise, with previous Clients including:

  • Local Authorities and public bodies;
  • Private Clients;
  • Health Trusts;
  • Commercial Landlords (large property portfolios).

With projects to include extensions, refurbishments and demolition of industrial and factory, medical facilities and educational buildings etc.
